It’s September 5th and we have been the proud owners of the vineyard for five days.  We now have our DBA as Boxing Rabbit Vineyard, opened our accounts and are preparing for the harvest of 7 acres of Mourvedre.  They didn’t get much water this year because  the irrigation system was not up and running until a few weeks ago and the whole area is in a drought, but we will get enough to satisfy the Calais Winery order.  Brix was 22 a few days ago but now it’s up to 26.  Bobby Cox and Andis Applewhite are finishing it up this year so we are just waiting on them to say go.

Preston has been working on the tractor for the past week.  Seems the wiring system had some issues.  I think all the wires underneath it had come loose.  He got it working today and put the box blade on it to clear out some of the sticker burrs for the pickers.  I hopped in the cab with him and we went for our first ride down the rows, making a good deal of progress cleaning up the weeds.

We wrapped up the day with a visit to Bobby Cox at Pheasant Ridge Vineyards, got some great advise and bought some Viognier that Bobby won a Gold Metal in California for.  It was made with our Pinot Gris.  He said that year on the mere two rows that we have they got 2 tons of grapes.  WOW!
